5 out of 5 stars.
Evie snow is eighty two when she quietly passes away in her sleep, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. It's the way most people wish to leave the world but when Evie reaches the door of her own private heaven, she finds that she's become her twenty-seven-year-old self and the door won't open.
Evie's soul must be light enough to pass through so she needs to get rid of whatever is making her soul heavy. For Evie, this means unburdening herself of her three secrets that have weighed her down for over fifty years, so she must find a way to reveal them before it's too late. As Evie begins the journey of a lifetime, she learns more about life and love than she ever thought possible, and somehow, some way, she may also find her way back to her long lost love.
This book started out as quite the normal and typical love story. A girl growing up in a rich family but she wants nothing more than a normal life. An overpowering mother who tells her what she has to do and who she has to marry. Evie doesn't want to follow in her mothers footsteps and just marry for money. Evie wants a career in animation, she wants the choice of who she marries, she wants to live in her own home. All Evie truly wants is her freedom from her family. Finally Evie's mother agrees to let her have the freedom she desires, she lets her live in a flat of her own as long as she can get a job and a promotion within a year. Evie finds a job in a newspaper drawing comics and more importantly to Evie she falls in love with a man called Vincent. But will she get that promotion and be able to live her life with Vincent? You'll have to read the book to find out.
The more the book goes on the stranger it becomes. In several parts I kept having to go back and read bits just to check that I had read it right because it was just THAT weird. Despite the weird bits I really enjoyed reading this book. Carrie Hope Fletcher wrote this book really well and came up with some great ideas for it. Carrie has a novella following on from this book coming out on November 15th so make sure you read this quickly before the next one comes out. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I'm sure you will too.
