Festive Hot Chocolate Recipes

Christmas time is such a cosy time with the tree up, lights on, the fire up nice and warm and being wrapped up all nice and cosy in a blanket watching Christmas films. The only thing missing is a tasty hot chocolate to be sipped on. I have decided to make a few different hot chocolates to try and they are all delicious.

Peppermint Hot Chocolate:

Ingredients:

  • 200g bar plain chocolate, broken into chunks

  • 600ml milk

  • 150ml pot single cream

  • Sugar, to taste

  • Candy canes, to serve

Put the chocolate in a pan with milk. Gently heat, stirring until all the chocolate has melted. Continue heating until the milk is steaming. Then remove from the heat and stir in the cream.

Divide the hot chocolate between 6 mugs, add sugar to taste and hang a candy cane on the edge of each. Pass the mugs around for everyone to stir their peppermint candy cane as much as they want. Enjoy your hot chocolate.

Caramel Hot Chocolate:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups milk

  • 1/4 cup of cocoa powder

  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar

  • 1/4 cup caramel sauce

  • Whipped cream

  • Caramel sauce, for drizzling

Heat the milk in the pan until it is hot but not boiling (you'll see it start to steam). Whisk in the cocoa powder, 1/4 cup sugar and caramel until smooth. Turn off the heat and pout into the mugs

Add whipped cream on top of the hot chocolate then drizzle the caramel sauce.

Just make sure you be careful if you try and melt the caramel sauce in the microwave. I've done this hundreds of times and yet this is the first time it has ever exploded. I usually put it in for about 30 seconds to make it go all runny. So as you can see in the picture above it didn't turn out quite how I would have liked.

Cookies and Cream Hot Chocolate:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups milk

  • 1/2 cup hot chocolate powder

  • 4 - 5 oreos

  • Whipped cream

  • Crushed oreos for topping

Heat the milk in a pan until it is hot but not boiling. Add the hot chocolate powder. Grind the oreos up finely and add the oreos into the warm milk.

Add whipped cream on top of the hot chocolate and the oreos crushed on the top.

I have loved making these hot chocolates and they all tasted amazing! I recommend trying them all.

My favourite hot chocolate out of the three was the peppermint hot chocolate by a mile. It was amazing, they all were, but the peppermint one blew my socks off. Give them all a try and let me know what you think using the comments box at the bottom of the main page.

Only 8 days to go!
